About This Game Slay is a turn based strategy game where your goal is to conquer the island by buying men and using them to capture your enemies' hexagons. By combining two men you can create a single more powerful man who is able to kill weaker men. No. This is a modern version of an old game but has lost most of its charm. I know this for sure because I still have one of the older versions and play it all the time. I tend to play it at absent moments almost like a nasty habit have tens of thousands of hours of play on it. Literally.No this version is awful. The sounds aren’t ‘improved’ and the visuals while polished have become a polished 'turd'. The options are just seriously lacking (it is a ported phone game). For instance there is no option for scaling or even for windowed mode. Still no volume control. Still has the very irritating surrender feature which it slips to you just when you’re not expecting it. (messes up game scoring)None of this is the real problem though, the top level Master level mode no longer works for most islands, its as simple as that. The programmer could not increase the AI intelligence any higher and so instead turned up the aggression to the point where it goes from being a hard fight to an impossible one. Even when you do win it is now a matter of real luck and a very hard long slog. This wouldn’t be so bad but it has now become every game (where you can win at all) which takes all the pleasure out of it. You have to like self torture to play this game but this new version is just taking it too far.. super addicting game. It seems like the AI got an upgrade so if you felt like the windows version was too easy, this should provide a challenge again since it adds one more difficulty level. It's not too obvious before you buy, but Sean added back in the feature to create custom maps to this version. This game never gets old. I probably have logged more hours played per dollar spent on this game than any other.. I think €10 is a bit too expensive, but I got it anyway because I was bored -- and the ancient classic brought me countless hours of fun so I think the dev deserves it. Compared to the original it looks much better, but the gameplay is exactly the same. Which is good!I would compare this game to minesweeper. Of course this is different, it's a turn-based strategy map against a bunch of AI players, but it puts you in the same mindset. It's a fun, calm puzzling game, eventually you kind of play instinctively without thinking too much, and it feels quite "zen".With most rounds lasting 5-15 minutes, it's great entertainment for breaks.. Old Slay let you make custom island, missing stuff that important from the old game, colour pallets are okay, doesn't have anything worthwhile new, fun game but with everything listed just get the old version by finding it via google. If it had 2 player or even more like I said with custom islands and the ability to modify the amount of players and map shape it would be a visual upgrade to the old game effectively. Just buy the old game because I doubt this game is getting an update. Crunch for this game is how many times you want to play it. Ten maps was my limit. After that had got a rythm and there just aren't enough strategic options to keep me playing. Graphic could be better, multiplayer would really make a difference, achievements maybe, but this feels like something that's just out there to make cash and not someones attempt to bring joy to thousands.. Played game for the first day, it was fun.Now the game wont even load up. I purchased it over the weekend its wednesday. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, verifying files, and searching the forums. Found another guy with windows 7 having this same issue other than that nothing, no answer. Idk. Hopefully this review will encourage a dev to respond. Computer teams cheat by making captures that are supposed to be impossible, like taking a spearman with a spearman. At least on expert and above difficulty. Haven't seen it happen on begineer.. If you, like me, have been watching some Youtube videos about Slay... This is not the game you are likely looking for. It is a hollow shell of the original.. Good: It's fun, it's fine. It's the same gameplay as ever. The AI might be a bit better.Bad: For $10 and more than 2 decades after the game originally came out, I'd expect more features, not fewer. Where's the online mulitplayer? Why no random map generation?
